Itinerary

Castle of Koroni – 10:00 AM

The charming town of Koroni is nestled on a hillside overlooking the Gulf of Messinia, with a Venetian fortress towering above. Founded in ancient times, it later became a strategic stronghold during the Byzantine era, with the fortress constructed between the 6th and 7th centuries AD. The Venetians expanded and reinforced the fortress in the 13th century, making Koroni a crucial part of their maritime empire. Over the centuries, the town changed hands multiple times, from the Venetians to the Ottomans and back again.
• Walk through the impressive fortifications and massive round towers, remnants of a turbulent past.
• Admire the stone-built alleys and picturesque seaside, where history and nature blend seamlessly.

Castle of Methoni - 11:30 AM

The town of Methoni overlooks the vast Ionian Sea and the nearby Oinousses Islands. Due to its strategic location, it was a major trade and maritime center. The Venetians built the Methoni Castle in the early 13th century, making it one of the largest and most spectacular castles in the Mediterranean.
• Cross the 14-arched stone bridge over the moat to enter the castle’s grand gate, marked by the Venetian Lion of St. Mark.
• Explore the fortified islet of Bourtzi, a former prison and execution site during the Ottoman occupation.
• Discover the ruined Ottoman bathhouses within the castle walls.

Free Time in Pylos – 1:30 PM

Pylos is a vibrant seaside town with a fascinating history dating back to the Neolithic period. It played a crucial role in Mycenaean Greece, with the nearby Palace of Nestor, home to the legendary king from Homer’s Iliad. Pylos witnessed numerous battles and occupations, from the Franks and Venetians to the Ottomans.

One of the most defining moments in its history was the Battle of Navarino in 1827, a decisive naval battle that helped secure Greece’s independence.

Stroll through Pylos’ charming port and central square, where a monument commemorates the historic naval victory.

Enjoy free time to relax, shop, or have lunch in one of the town’s seaside tavernas.

Beach Time at Voidokilia – 3:30 PM

After exploring castles and historic towns, it’s time to unwind at one of Greece’s most stunning beaches—Voidokilia Beach. Shaped like a perfect Greek letter “Ω,” Voidokilia is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and soft golden sand.
• Swim in the tranquil, turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea.
• Relax under the sun, surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery.
• Explore the nearby Gialova Lagoon, a protected nature reserve home to rare bird species.
